I just got back from an amazing girls’ trip to Fort Lauderdale, Florida with some of my girlfriends from college. It’s kind of crazy to me that it’s been ten years since I graduated college, and almost 10 years since I got married. Two of my friends I haven’t seen in at least 10 years, so it was high time we got together again to catch up!
We picked Fort Lauderdale because although it wasn’t centrally located, it was an easy destination to fly to. After weeks of research, we determined that it was also one of the more reasonable locations in terms of flight prices. We found an Airbnb that was right on the beach, within walking distance of a couple of restaurants. It wasn’t huge, but it was perfect for what we needed.
One of my friends works with a few people who had vacationed in Fort Lauderdale and gave us some recommendations on places to eat. We didn’t have time to try all of them, but the ones we did were amazing!! For breakfast, we tried Nanou. It was a cute French bakery that was so delicious we went back the next day for breakfast again (and ended up going there a total of 4 times!).
I had the most amazing chocolate eclairs I’ve ever had. The first day I had the ham and Swiss quiche, and the second day I tried the custom omelette on a croissant. Both days I tried their fresh squeezed orange juice. All the food was so amazing!
Another place we tried wasn’t one of the recommendations but was an accidental find. El Guacano was a blend of Mexican, Spanish and El Salvadoran food. I ordered passion fruit juice with my chicken tacos and was not disappointed! It was so delicious and I was so hungry that I didn’t even have time to take a photo.
The last place worth recommending was The Pirate Republic Bar.We were seated on the dock of the intercoastal, with a wonderful breeze cooling the day. The whole restaurant was pirate themed, which was fun, but what won me over was the food! It had a heavy Brazilian influence, which resulted in delicious food. I ordered the Ilha Bella Chicken, a chicken with a tomato and coconut cream sauce. It was so delicious and I couldn’t stop eating it! My friends were also very impressed with their meals. Their mojitos were great as well.
Lounging by the pool, walking in the waves on the beach, eating fantastic food and catching up with good friends- what more could you want for a girls’ trip?!
