We just wrapped up our VBS (vacation Bible school) week at our church, and I am wiped out! I wasn’t even a full-time volunteer and I am glad it’s over. Don’t get me wrong- it’s a fantastic week and my kids love it! I love it because they love it and because it’s just such a great program. But I was blessed to get 5 reminders from VBS week.
5 reminders from VBS week
Homeschool is definitely my jam.
Having to get up and feed my kids, dress them (and myself) and be somewhere by 8:30 every day for a week was rough. It reminded me one of the many things I love about homeschooling- no morning rush! We don’t always have a lazy morning, but most of the time we have control over that and over how fast we get dressed and go. Props to all the moms who have to get their kids and themselves ready and head out first thing in the morning. You have all my respect and admiration!
Eating healthy is easier when you plan ahead
This is a no-brainer, but a good reminder nonetheless. We’re currently cutting out all gluten and dairy in our house, and without planning ahead, it’s almost impossible to eat right. When you’re surrounded with junk food, it’s too easy to grab that crappy muffin and rationalize it. Or starve and spend the rest of the day with a hunger-induced headache. Planning will make life easier and save the day! (Clearly, I’m preaching to the choir. I need to get better at this.)
Note: We love this protein powder specifically for kids. I make smoothies/shakes for my kids with it as a healthy snack when they need one. It tastes great and is great to add to pancakes, muffins, etc for an extra protein boost.
I’d love a personal chef
Speaking of eating healthy, I would love a personal chef. Ok, not really. But this week, trying to figure out what to make for lunch and dinner every day was exhausting. And I love to cook! I really, truly enjoy it, but getting home at 12:30 and trying to get everything done I need to during a few hours before making dinner was hard (wah wah, first world problems, I know).
Working Moms are Badass
All moms are badass. We truly are. But every once in a while, I get these kinds of reminders and I like to take a minute to appreciate moms who live their lives so different from mine. I admire the moms who take their kids to school, work all day, and then come home to make dinner and take care of things at home. You guys are amazing!
I need to go to bed earlier
A few nights I managed to get in bed by 9, which is unheard of for me. One of those nights, I actually managed to sleep all night with no interruptions and it was amazing. I think I got 9 hours of sleep that night. The other nights I had nightly visitors, so sleep wasn’t quite as amazing, but either way, going to bed early was a game changer. I definitely need to do it more often.
All these reminders were a good way to start my summer. VBS is sort of the kick-off to our summer, so here’s to laid-back summer days by the kiddie pool (or splash pad)!!
